Mertesacker Extends Germany Injury List, Loew Does Not Panic |
Berlin - Arsenal defender Per Mertesacker to extend the list of injured players ahead of the German national team trial match against France. However, coach Joachim Loew said he did not panic.
Mertesacker suffered an ankle injury when Arsenal beat Sunderlad 2-1 on Saturday. He is expected to need at least a month to recuperate.
Mertesacker makes the fourth German player who entered the treatment room. Previously existing player Bastian Schweinsteiger (Bayern Munich) suffered an ankle injury, Mario Goetze (groin) and striker Lukas Podolski Koeln (foot injury).
Der Panzer Bremen will host France in order to match diving trials on February 29. Responding to growing long list of injured players, Loew remain calm.
"No panic when we hear of a new injury," said Loew as reported by AFP.
"The clubs who should be worried more than me, for now. For us, we still can handle it," he added.
Loew will nominate his squad on February 22 before making a list of 23 players who will be brought to the 2012 European Cup in early May.
